REVIEW The first impressions of the pager were very good, the strap, buckle, vibration unit and the remote are all well constructed and should last well. Included in the box were two batteries (one for the transmitter and one for the collar) a user guide and a training guide. The transmitter has a belt clip on the back to allow it to be fixed safely in place, on the front are three rubber type buttons and an LED light to indicate when the buttons have been pressed. The top one of these buttons activates both tone and vibrate on the collar, the middle button tone only and the bottom button vibrate only. There is a little assembly required, the buckle has to be fitted onto the collar and adjusted for the size of the dog, and the batteries have to be fitted into the transmitter and collar (a screwdriver will be required for this) which was an easy job and took only a couple of minutes. Once the collar had been assembled we wanted to try it on ourselves first to make sure that it was going to be safe and comfortable for the dogs. On the inside of the collar are two smoothly rounded metal nuts which lie against the neck - when the button is pressed on the transmitter these transmit the vibration from a small box attached to the front of the collar . There is no electric shock as used in some other collars, just a gentle vibrating sensation which was not unpleasant at all. The audible beep from the collar was very useful initially for us to tell that the collar had received the signal from the transmitter. When we were happy that the collar would be comfortable for the dogs we acclimatised Bertie to the collar, according to the enclosed training manual this has to be done over the period of four days. Once this was done we started the process of training. Bertie, wasn't upset at all by the vibrating and was very happy once he realised that vibrate = treat after a few trials he was soon looking round for us when we pressed the button to come and get his reward. The training guide describes a number of ways in which the collar can be used, for obedience training or 'eliminating specific behaviours' we personally thought that the positive approach - very similar to clicker training was the most appropriate. Overall we felt that the collar was very well made and offered an excellent method for training your dog, particularly as an aide to the recall command on occasions where he is facing away from you!
