Aristocrat”
This ancient and beautiful
breed has been prized by horsemen for over four thousand
years. The Akhal-Teke, which originated in Turkmenistan
and is the pride of the Teke tribesmen, is now recognised
as the oldest and purest form of oriental horse, distinguished
by its unique conformation and prized especially for
its wonderful coat, which has an unforgettable metallic
sheen.
The breed is now known
to be important in the development of the Thoroughbred
and other related breeds.
Today these rare and
beautiful horses are gaining increasing recognition
as performance horses. Pure and Part-bred Akhal Tekes
excel in all spheres, especially in endurance, show
jumping and dressage.
The Akhal-Teke Society
of G.B. aims to promote the breed in this country, encouraging
both competition and breeding. The Society keeps a register
of Pure, Anglo- and Part-bred horses, including stallions
at stud.
The Society also organises
its own Annual Horse Awards Competition, which recognises
the achievements of Akhal-Tekes in Britain in all types
of competition. |
